Yesterday there was a very good documentary (by Mark Ridel) about Ravi Shankar on french-german TV Arte.
I just realised how this man had changed the music history in the whole world : He spoke about Menuhin, the Beatles, Coltrane. . We could see Hendrix listening to him. . . Ravi Shankar was in the music before them, with them and he's still there!!
Good parts with Alla Rakha and Zakir Hussain also: They were very thankful for the new status he gave to tabla players.
There was pieces from his latest tour with Anoushka and Bikram Ghosh.I wish I could be there. .
Heard on another forum that this aired on the BBC back in late August also. Eagerly awaiting PBS here in the states to get with it and air it here too!
