Hi ,
i need some serious help. i live in syracuse, new york, and i love singing hindustani vocal music. i am very fond of udit narayan, and i try to sing as close to him as possibly, suprisingly i can but i hope i could go a bit of a higher pitch. anyways i am currently in high school and obviously my parents want me to study and all the basic things that indian parents require. but i want to sing when i grow up, and i want to start after college. the only problem i have is that my parents are not so willing to teach me how to read music, because i always use karaoke and just plain lyrics. i need to learn to succceed. Help!!

Hi,
Either try to learn on your own but if all fails try to convince your parents that you want to learn singing just as a hobbie. You will have to be very skilful to make them think that you are still primarely interested in your college studies so that they don't think that what you really want is to be a musician.
But whatever you do don't stop your studies. Even if u become a great musician, you will never regret having a degree or something similar. You never know what life will throw at you.

cheers
