The shape of the hammer,why 2 different shaped sides of head ?. .what is the part at the bottem of the stem for ? it looks like a 3 use hammer , what are they ? [obvious 1st]. ., also is there any rock /pop rhythms for tabla, ? like the conga type parts,similiar flow. ., i no longer hit strap to tune now. .ive moved on . .to my thumb. .sometimes braid . .is there a sequence to insert gatta on bayan ?. .is the strap order same as dayan ?. .2 3 1 4 . thanks replys.
The other side of the hammer is to hit the gatta. No, i dont think there is any western music for Tablas, you'll have to come up with it on your own, though you could use something like Kherwa for 4/4 times . . . or TinTal. For gatta insertion, David Courtney has a great page for this kind of stuf:
