Hi,
the middle finger can play a na but that na would probably be on the rim or a Te-like sound. e.g Dha-ra dhagina dhagina. . here the na is similar to a Te. I use both the middle and the ring finger. Playing open sounds on the maidan-rim, can be a great fun, but you will have to feel it. It is not just a matter of playing but the quetion is: is it coming out with true emotion at the right moment? din is just an open sound. there is no ka on the treble but a kat yes there is.
the best way to master all this is to TeteTete for two years non stop, for at least two hours a day and then all will be reveled.
sorry about the mistake above. kat should be played on the bayan as a dry flat sound and not on the tabla. tak on the other hand is to be played as a closed sound on the shyahi. U can use either 2nd, 3rd and 4rth, or all the three thingers at same time.
Da is played as tun but only with index finger.
dagina dagina ----- u would play-----tun ge te.
. .goes to show that I still have lots to learn.
Depending of the context Kat may also be played on Dayan. for example in Ektaal: Dhin Dhin Dhage Trakra tu na KAT ta Dhage Trakra Dhin na, KAT is just like Te (with the right hand), or in those bols like Dhatraka also, ka is like Te.
