If you would like to learn Urdu I would recommend first learning the alphabet, specifically how to write in nastaliq style of script becasue naskh is not used that much. To this end, I would highly recommend "Teach Yourself - Beginner's Urdu Script" published by NTC Publishing Group written by Richard Delacy and then once you have mastered writing and the basic vocabulary and grammar given in this book try to get a copy of "Teach Yourself - Urdu" published by the same company and written by Mohamed Dalvi with two cassette tapes which accompany the book. These are the easiest and most comprehensive books, and I'm sure using just these two books and the two cassettes you can easily learn to speak and understand Urdu with a some practice and hard work.
