east meets west cd Sep 17, 2001 08:30 p.m.

Well, seeing all the horrible things on tv that took place in the past week. .also living here in new york something is affecting me more than the incident itself. . .i am concerned about the discrimination against arabs/muslims and just about any people of eastern origin. .and in my thought i came up with an idea of hopefully gettin some wonderful indian musicians and write a cd with them, right now im thinking of sarangi and tabla in an eats meets west cd. any ideas or comments would be appreciated. and remember "discriminating others, is discriminating. . .OURSELVES."

The Cd called east meets west has violin and sitar tabla and tanpura, I think its a great idea. Do you have musicians around that will play with you? If you ever make it happen put it up on the net so we can all hear it. What american insturments would you use?

Any idea that strengthens now unity between mankind is vital and is of great value. Music is something that reaches the soul directly, so a CD of this kind is most welcome! Wishing you a lot of success and thank you for the idea.

Well as for naming. .im not sure what i would call it. .of course it wouldnt be east meets west. .probably something symbolic. .the age of innocence or something along those lines. i do in fact have musicians here that would want to do this however i think i would probably need someone to sponsor me. .just about all of the profits would, however go to american red cross foundation or something of the such. i dont necessarily play "american" instruments, i was, however and still am a classically trained pianist and i would also write with my father (as you know i am but 14) who is a life long classical guitar player all and all i think we have a good shot at making this work!

Are you looking to sort it all out yourself or would you be interested in taking submissions from other people (which would cut down on the costs substantially). If you are interested in that then check out Tabla and Strings (they've got some stuff on http://www.besonic.com). Tobias Ot from Germany plays the tabla and the guitarists I think were from NYC (but I might be wrong) and the material is excellent. From what I know of Tobias he'd be up for this (I might email him and suggest he looks in). He also runs with an outfit called Spaceport Orkestra of Benares and while being maybe a bit more electronic than what you're describing also have a couple of down tempo tracks that might fit (depending on what you have in mind). I don't know if any of our material (Secret Archives of the Vatican) would fit the bill but if we have anything that would be of use you would be welcome to use it (just contact me and we'll discuss).

I like it. I've been working on a duet with sampled tabla and live tabla. I think it would fit your east mts. west.
