- Ravi wins Filmfare award for "Best Music Director" for his work in "Gharana".
- The film "Pathan" acquires the dubious distinction of having the maximum number of music directors for any Indian film. Although it has only seven songs it has 9 music directors.
- Mohd. Rafi wins the Filmfare Award for "Best Male Playback" for the song Chashme Buddoor from "Sasural".

- India's second international film festival is held in New Delhi.
- Pakistan bans Indian films in East Pakistan. This impacts the Calcutta based Bengali film industry.
- Due to All India Radio's (A.I.R) policy of pushing classical music, the Hindi film industry becomes much closer to Radio Ceylon. Radio Ceylon essentially "captures" the commercial distribution of film music in India.
