harmonium reeds Jul 12, 2002 04:20 p.m.

Can anyone tell me where the finest reeds can be purchased, both brass and copper. I am looking for reeds that will sustain well, very responsive, and do not have any distortion to the sound such as 'zzzz', not buzzing, but 'zzzz'. Also, a quality reed that all have been tested for the same voice and tenor.

many thanks for this help.

Hello David,
I am also interested in finding out about harmonium reeds. We have 2 harmoniums and both of them have "palitana" reeds. During the next trip to India I am planning to get a couple of sets of reeds and install them in the harmonium myself. I plan to find out more about harmonium makers and reed makers while there. If I get more info. I will post it here.

Regards,

Hi Ashwini,

Thank you for the kind reply. We are manufactoring a very unique 'flavor' of harmoniums that are simply outstanding. We are currently using NS reeds, which are described as the finest. BUT, am not always satisfyed with the overall sound quality. My friend in Delhi, who is making these harmoniums is currently looking for a maker in India that will make the reeds to order. What we are looking for is a combination of brass and high content of copper to result is a clean clear sound, but sufficient brass to promote sustaining and response. If you would like to know more about what we are doing please feel free to email me at: david_todd@intuit.com

with warm regards,

david
