How do your teachers learn you to improvise (gat vistar)?
Do they teach you a systematic aproach like Ravi Shankar's layakari system (division of the matra)?
I mean that you first learn to improvise tanas from one note in one matra, then two notes in one matra, then 3,4,5,6,7,8 and 9.
Or do your teachers teach you a different method of improvisation?. I am curious.

I think it's an interesting subject though. I mean indian music is about 80 (or so) percent improvisation and anyone playing it should learn it.
Tell me your experiences. .
