Hey Jan: If you can't find shellac flakes locally, go to http://www.shellac.net/ I bought one of their sampler packs - it's come to you fresh and there's enough shellac to touch up a sitar for it's entire life. Make sure you get the de-waxed variety. Whatever you do, don't buy the pre-mixed stuff from the hardware store! It has preservatives in it to give it a longer shelf life and it never really dries hard.
