Never saw a sitar sarode combo before. Looks to be an original idea. Looks like it plays as a sarode, but does it sound different?

Hi, sitar-sarode sounds like a sitar with a lot more freedom of movement and a much fuller tone. It is played like a sarod, however mizrab also work. He has made many unique instruments, and now I have a few new ones I invented he is going to make for me, they are secrets now, but when they are done I can send pics.

It kinda reminds me of a sursingar, as far as the shape goes. . . .
Never heard a sursingar by the way. Does anyone know a recording of the sursingar?

Peace,

I would like to hear the sound of the sitar sarode. From the picture, it has no frets so its played not by pulling the string for a meend, but along the long axis like a sarode. Looks to have 6 main strings and 2 chikaris, and 14 tarbs. This thing has got to sound tremendous.

I've never heard a sursringar either, but from what I've read it sounds just like a sarode, but very little volume and practically no sustain. That's why the larger sarode replaced it.

There is 1 recording of Sursringar, but it is apparently poor quality. Sursringar is actually a lot like the Carnatic veena in sound, and is bigger than sarod, the one I have is 50". The sitar sarod has 16 tarab strings, 5 main strings and 3 chikari strings. It is played just like sarod, but sound like the sitar, but with a fuller sound because of the body structure.

Thanks RH. Hmm. . .that sample of sursingar sounds more like a rudra veena to me. Beenkarji, can you put an mp3 clip of the sitar-sarode up to link to? Whoa! I think your pics got taken away.

You missed some nice ones, Jan. They were just recently taken down. Not very nice of them. I think I would change servers because of that cheapness!

Hi, I am going to put all of the pics on my geocities site, so by the end of the day I will send everyone the link. I have to agree about the Sursringar sounding a bit like the rudra veena, but not quite, I guess I play rudra veena myself so I am really picky about the tone. I dont have sound files of the sitar-sarod because I dont own it yet, I just ordered one, but I think it will be a very impressive sound.
