INDIAN MUSIC FORUM ARCHIVES: Sitar Forum: Chickari stringing and tuning

I am a very new sitar player and I have a basic question. I am a bit confused about the chickari strings. Do these strings get mounted up on the white posts that sit on the fretboard right next to the tuning pegs?

I tried to tune them w/out mounting them and I could not get the strings to tune to correct notes. . . .to much string tension!

I will run both strings onto both posts and then will actually have my sitar completely tuned!!
