MY SITAR: by Bhagwat Sharar Sharma. 68 pages, softcover. This is a very hard to find book in India but we've managed to get a number of copies. It presents "complete" ragas in a fixed format to help you learn, talks about developing Alap, composing taans (runs), etc. Written in India, it takes a little concentration to follow but it's the best thing around so far if you don't have a teacher.

Taken from Sitars etc. website. Excellent book, especially for those who do not have a teacher. Actually provides compositions, tans and alaps. Rare in ICM in terms of music written down. Great to get a feel for how to compose and improvise, raag structure et al

I have that book. It is hard to follow, as there is ony so many pages to explain his stuff, but the writer does a good job.

It is a good book, however. Great sections on Tal and Alap, with a nice list of raags.
