Hey all, how's it goin? ive been playing tabla for about 3 or 4 weeks now, and a friend of mine plays sitar. anyways were interested in attempting something a little more traditional than we are currently playing. ive found lots of traditional bols, and raags (my appologies if these are the wrong terms for "beats and rythems". feel free to correct me if im wrong.) for the tabla, but i cant seem to find anything similar for sitar. could someone please help us, and tell us where we might find some music for the sitar?

Hey Deanis;
Term for rythmn or beat is tala, term for the melody is laya. With sitar, the rythmic cycles are the taans. They are played in a coordinated fashion with the tabla. Best written source I can think of for these terms is in an old book called "Techniques of Sitar" by Bandypapayana or something like that, but its around &75 through Khazana.com.
But like I say, that's the one we call "The Sitar Bible"!

If you have a local college or university library nearby, I'd try that. Usually a bigger selection than a town library. I found a copy of Ravi Shankar's "My Music My Life" for checkout at our local university library. By the way, that's another good one. Many beginners like that one.
