Hi,
I wondered if someone could give me the bols with which i could improve my bayan synchronisation with dayan. I play tabla for a long time. The problem i face is that when i play a simple bol like ek taal.
It sometimes happens that i miss the Ge bol quite often.
Its like 'Dhin Dhin Dhage tirkit tu na'
i sometimes miss Ge bol in Dhage.

My index finger seems to loose weight when it comes to play this bol.
Can someone suggest what bol i should practice as the ge bol is very important in many kaidas and other bols as well.

Thanks for the help.

Shetty

Dear Friend,
Practice the bols
Ge Ge ti ta Ge Ge na na
Ke Ke ti ta Ge Ge na na
Initially in slower tempo but with weight in hand. slowly incerease the tempo and feel the difference

Try this. .

Dhagi tit kit gigi
Dhagi tit kit kiki
Taki tit kit kiki
Dhagi tit kit gigi

practice this in slow tempo initially letting your hands naturally speed up -- DONT FORCE THE SPEED. you will then notice a difference.

Another good variation of this:
Ge Ge ti ta / Ge Ge na na
Ke Ke Ke ta / Ge Ge Ge na

The repitition of two Ge's in the first line to three Ge's in the second line and back will help give you equal strength in both fingers if you alternate them continously ( beginning with middle, index, middle, index. .through the second repetition which will be begin with index, middle, index, middle, . . and back.) - also good for 'Ke Ke' repetition strength which tends to get overlooked.

Dear Friend,
Here are some exercises I find very effective:
GINA GAI GAI NAGE DHINA
Then variate this like so:
GINA GAI GAI NAGE DHINA
GINA GAI GAI GAI GAI GAI GAI GAI GAI
GINA GAI GAI NAGE DHINA
KINA KAI. . . . . . . . .

Another one is.
GINAGE GINAGE DHINA TINAKINA
-or-
DHINAGE DHINAGE DHINA TINAKINA
this is a composition which is usually doubled at higher speeds. Start off slow, and work at it. If your middle finger is strong and your index very weak, i suggest playing on your index finger only. Try that and see how it works out. Alternate, play a composition with both fingers, then with just the index, then with both. Another good thing to do is, tie small wieghts on the tip of your fingers, spread them apart and try to lift them/bend back as musch as you can, without the assitancs of the other hand. I hope I was of good help to you.
Regards,
Casey
