Hi,
Wanting to order a pairof tablas from india through a friend. . How do measure correctly. i.e is it diameter of wooden circle of the tabla or the extreeme edge of the skin?

Sunil,
Both the tabla and the baya are generally measured from the outside diameter of the opening of the shell, or where the skin folds over at that point. The measurement should be made from at leasts two or more axis to insure that the shell is not out-of-round. Expect some degree of considerable variation when ordering tablas or skins, however, since these are not machine-made instruments.
