Hey guys,
I am new to this forum and rather new to tabla as well. I have only been playing for about a year, so I have long ways to go. Anyways, I have been listening to the YoYo Ma Cd: "Silk Road Journeys" and I had a question about the tabla part on track #3. I was wondering if that is a common theka in teental? Does anyone know what it is called and possibly where it came from? It sounds like it is folkloric, but again I'm not terribly educated in rhythmic history yet.
If you get a chance, check out that track, its a pretty sweet rhythm, both in the slow section of the beginning of the piece and towards the end where everything picks up.
