For example, on a sitar track with tabla accompaniment, how would I
remove
the tabla sound, and keep the sitar sound intact. .

An electronic drone or other instrument can be used as a lehera but
would
get monotonous for practice. .

Any pointers are appreciated.

As per my knowledge, it is not possible to remove tabla track unless you have the master recording and both instruments were recorded on different tracks. But still you should ask any sound engineer about the solution. I am sure he will also tell you the same. All the best.
