Also, do you need to buy from a builder or do big music stores usually sell tablas ?

I think we e-mailed a little bit. There are definitely no tabla makers in Quebec. There are two stores that sell ok drums - Les Trouvailles Chandel, and Leela Music House. Both are in Montreal, and both are in the 'Suppliers of Indian Instruments' list on this web site. Check the menu at the left of the screen. .

For better instruments, you can order from Buckingham Music, Ali Akbar College, or Surila.com.
