Dear friends,

In the recording "Selects" by Zakir Hussain (released in 2002) it says, for track 2, that Zakir plays kadas from Delhi, Ajrada, Benares, Farukhabad and Punjab garhanas. Here are the kadas he performs :

1 Dha ti dha ge, na dha tirakita, dha ti dha ge, tin na ke na...

2 Dhi ge dhi na, tirakita dhi na, dha ge na dhi, ge ti na na...

3 Dha tirakitataka, tirakitadha tira, kitatakatirakita, dhin na ge na, dha ti dha ge, dhi na ge na, dha ti dha ge, tin na ke na...

4 Dha te te dha, te te dha dha, te te dha ge, tin na ke na...

and finally

5 Dha na ge dhe, te te te dha, ge na dha ge, dhin na ge na, dhe te dhe te, dha ge na dha, ti dha ge na, tin na ke na...

Wich kada belongs to what garhana ?

I always thought that the 1st and 4th where from Dehli, the 2nd from Benares and 3rd and 5fth from Punjab garhana ! What about Ajrada and Farukhabad ?

Sincerely, Gabriel

I would agree with you, very good guesses.

Ajarya is similar to Delhi and add some suddle touches to the Delhi kaidas which Zakir maybe using.
So maybe it's more of the paltas, on the other hand maybe it's more of a general statement suggesting that he's playing all styles (except Lucknow) Which would make sense since Zakir always maintains a clear distinction between him and Swapanda.

#5 looks likes it could possibly be Ajarya
Althought it does look a lot like an Allah Rakha composition.

The method he used to open DhaTiDhaGe NaDhaTrkt is from Habibuddin Khanshb which is why the name of Ajrada might have been mentioned.
