Hi, to everyone:
I am new to this forum and to Tabla playing.
I started to take lessons.
I have a few questions.
1. for now I am renting a set, when I am ready to buy how important is it to have a good set?
will it make my practice easier, any thoughts?

thanks

Dear Friend,

It is very important to have a good and well-sounded tabla. When your tabla is not okay then you don't like to play on it very much because you don't enjoy of the sound.

Hope it is useful for you.

I agree with a set of tablas that don't sound good you just can't enjoy playing them. A good set doesn't need to be expensive, I got my tablas through my teacher when I first started playing. I got a complete set for 135 (approx $200 including rings, hammer, bag, etc) and my second tabla for 50 (about $75). On showing them to other tabla players I've always been told that my drums are really nice (although the skin on one is starting to get a bit worn now).
