hi, to everyone: I am new to this forum and to Tabla playing. I started to take lessons. I have a few questions. 1. for now I am renting a set, when I am ready to buy how important is it to have a good set? will it make my practice easier, any thoughts?
I agree with a set of tablas that don't sound good you just can't enjoy playing them. A good set doesn't need to be expensive, I got my tablas through my teacher when I first started playing. I got a complete set for 135 (approx $200 including rings, hammer, bag, etc) and my second tabla for 50 (about $75). On showing them to other tabla players I've always been told that my drums are really nice (although the skin on one is starting to get a bit worn now).
